To Students with Approved Vaccine Exemptions: Fall Arrival Planning for Unvaccinated Students

Updates

Dear Student,

According to our records, you have received an exemption to Brown’s COVID-19 vaccination requirement. This communication contains additional information on COVID-19 public health requirements for unvaccinated students — including that all unvaccinated students must arrive in Providence on or before September 1, 2021.

As you know from previous communications, Brown is currently requiring unvaccinated students who are on campus in Fall 2021 to continue regular asymptomatic testing once every seven days (which may be adjusted in the future as public health conditions warrant). The University is also requiring unvaccinated students who are arriving in Providence to adhere to the following public health measures:

  1. Enter a seven-day modified quarantine period when they arrive;

  2. Get tested on the first and fifth days of their modified quarantine period; and

  3. Wear a mask and practice social distancing as directed by the COVID-19 Campus Safety Policy.

For the seven-day modified quarantine period, students will not be permitted to leave their residential building for any reason (including classes) except to get a COVID-19 test, receive clinical care from University Health Services by appointment, pick up a meal from a dining hall, or pick up mail or packages. These public health measures are critically important to the continued health and safety of the Brown community.

In order to fully participate in classes beginning on Wednesday, September 8, unvaccinated students will need to arrive, begin their modified quarantine period, and receive their first COVID-19 test by Wednesday, September 1, and will need to receive their second test by Monday, September 6. For earlier in-person activities (e.g., new student orientation, pre-season athletics, etc.) unvaccinated students will similarly need to plan their arrival, modified quarantine period, and two asymptomatic tests for seven days prior to the day they wish to begin in-person activities.

Students who receive a positive result from any COVID-19 test will be required to isolate for ten days as directed by University Health Services and may miss the first

week of classes or some portion of it, depending on the date of their positive result. Unvaccinated students will be permitted to exit their modified quarantine period after they have received negative results from both their day 1 and day 5 tests.

For more information regarding COVID-19 vaccinations and Brown’s continuing testing and tracing policies, please visit the Healthy Brown Vaccination FAQ page. For any other questions please reach out to Brown’s COVID-19 support team (studenttesting@brown.edu).

We thank you for your cooperation and commitment to the health and safety of the Brown Community.

Thank you,
